Common questions

Do I owe tax if I just bought and held?

Buying crypto with dollars and holding it is not taxable. Tax usually comes when you sell, swap one coin for another, spend it, or earn it.

What is Form 1099-DA?

Starting with 2025 sales, crypto brokers report your gross proceeds to the IRS on Form 1099-DA. Cost basis reporting begins with assets bought in 2026 or later, so your own records still matter.

I live outside the U.S. Do I still need to report crypto?

Yes, if you're a U.S. citizen or green card holder. The U.S. taxes your worldwide income, including crypto, no matter where you live. I work with clients remotely around the world.

I didn't report crypto in past years. What now?

Correcting it before the IRS reaches out is usually the better path. I'll review what's missing and recommend next steps.
